Greta Garbo (nacida como Greta Lovisa Gustafsson; 18 de septiembre de 1905 - 15 de abril de 1990) fue una actriz sueco-estadounidense. Considerada como una de las mejores actrices de la pantalla, era conocida por su personalidad melancólica y sombría, sus representaciones cinematográficas de personajes trágicos y sus interpretaciones sutiles y discretas. Durante la mayor parte de su carrera, fue la actriz o actor mejor pagado de MGM, lo que la convirtió durante muchos años en su "principal estrella de prestigio". Garbo fue nominada tres veces al Premio de la Academia a la Mejor Actriz y en 1954 recibió un Premio de Honor de la Academia "por sus interpretaciones luminosas e inolvidables en la pantalla". En 1999, el American Film Institute colocó a Garbo en el quinto lugar de su lista de las más grandes estrellas femeninas del cine clásico de Hollywood.
